The SmallRig Magnetic Mini LED Video Light is a clever little accessory that has become a go to when I want extra light with action cameras like GoPro or DJI.What stands out immediately is the magnetic design. It makes mounting and repositioning onto metallic surfaces or compatible magnetic mounts quick and effortless. You can stick it on a cage, tripod, light stand, or any metal plate and it stays put without wobble. That alone makes it feel more convenient than traditional clip lights. The adjustable color temperature from 3000K to 6000K is really useful. You can warm it up for indoor environments or dial in a cool tone for daylight shooting without needing extra gels or accessories. That flexibility makes it ideal for everything from vlogging and travel content to night rides and low light situations. The built in 500 mAh battery lasts a decent amount of time considering how small the unit is, and recharging is simple with USB C. I used it with DJI Osmo Action 6, GoPro, and even Insta360 Ace for extra lighting, and it integrated nicely without bulky setups.Pros• Magnetic mounting is fast and flexible• Adjustable color temperature for varied environments• Compact and lightweight for travel setups• Built in battery and USB C charging• Works with a range of action camerasCons• Light output is moderate so best for fill or key support rather than overpowering sunlight• Battery life is good but shorter than larger light panelsOverall, this mini video light punches above its weight. It is especially great if you shoot with small cameras and need lighting that is easy to carry, position, and adjust on the fly. Great for vloggers, travelers, and content creators who want better lighting without heavy gear.
Smallrig delivers another great product for the action camera space. I've been pulled into using my action camera more often and while I have one of the better low light performing cameras, nothing beats a little directed light when you really need it. Enter the latest Smallrig LED light with a coldshoe attachment fitting that magnetically holds the light in place. I've been using it for video and low light stills because that's a new thing with action cameras. The light charges via USB-C and has a 500 mAh battery that last surprisingly long for the size and weight. I've had it mounted on the camera but if you want to simulate an "off camera" lighting look, give it a pull and hold it up like you would any other light. Controls are simple and the light is very easy to use.The light is very inexpensive, easy to use, and provides great light. Thanks SmallRig!
I already own 2 small rig mounts so when I saw this available I had to order it. I was not disappointed, this little light is bright and powerful and has lots of flexible mounting options. For the mounts, that's what smallrig is known for and they have a unique approach here. There is a small mounting plate with adhesive if you are attaching this to a non-metallic surface. The light itself has a magnet inside that will attach to any metal, including the hot shoe mount and the plate I mentioned. I have used this to attach to the top of a laptop (just enough metal), microphone stand and various other things while out and about. The included hot shoe mount is also attaches via the magnet so you can leave it in place and remove the light if required. I was worried this wouldn't be strong enough, but never had an issue with using on multiple cameras.I was very surprised by the light this small LED can produce, it is bright! There are a dim and bright version of the 3 different color temperature modes for a total of 6 modes that cycle through with the button. These temperatures are a warm white, daylight, blend of both. These can cast a decent light 6ft or more from a camera which works well up to portrait distances. I was able to mount this on my Sony A7iii camera and it works well as a small portrait fill light.I did run into a problem mounting it directly to an old action cam housing (included a pic) of a 3rd party case for an older Go Pro. This wasn't something I would use on that older camera, but if you have a little case with no hole, the screw is a little too long even when tightened.Overall, I highly recommend this powerful little light!
Wow the product pictures don't do this lights compact size justice. It's super compact and feather light which is perfect for an action/selfie-stick cam setup. The light easily detaches and mounts on any metal surface or stores away in your pocket thanks to the magnetic mounting system. The magnet is strong enough to keep the light from falling off during bumps and is polar locked to its base so it won't rotate more than a few degrees. However this also means you can't flip or rotate the light to a new direction without also turning the base. It's got a super simple single button design that cycles through the 6 modes, I just wish the button was more flush/recessed to lower the odds of turning it on when I have it in my pocket or bag. The actual light output is good for its size however it's probably only functionally bright enough for close up film work or use for macro photography. It gets warm with continued use but never super hot. The battery lasts longer than I expected but you never know how much juice you have left since there's no level indicator beside charged or dead.
It's bright but I really need 2 because it will give a shadow
